Summary aims to clarify guidance around dense breasts
Women who have dense breasts and without other breast cancer risk factors should not be considered at high risk for breast cancer. Supplemental screening for breast cancer (breast MRI or ultrasonography) should be based on comprehensive risk assessment (not breast density alone) and should include patient’s values regarding the benefits and risks of additional tests and interventions.
